What is a template?

Templates are tools that you can use to save time when creating new pages. A template is the beginning of a page that has already been formatted a certain way to be used for a specific purpose.

Examples of times when you could use a template include situations like setting up pages for individual people or companies that will contain the same sorts of information or creating pages for a series of assignments that will be organized in a standardized fashion.

What does a template do for me?

A template can save you time and trouble when creating new pages. If you expect to make several pages with similar layouts (i.e. weekly lessons, class assignments, multiple team pages etc.), making a single template can save you a large amount of time that you would otherwise spend repeating unnecessary steps.

How do I create a new template?

You must be a space administrator to create a template.

How do I create a new page using a template?

Anyone who can create a page can use a template. There are two ways that you can use a template to create a new page.

Using the Advanced menu to create a new page from a template

The first option is to select your template from the Advanced menu in your space.

  1. Select the drop down box at the top of your screen labeled Browse and select the option Advanced.
  2. On the left side of your screen select the Templates tab under the heading Advanced.

  3. From here you will see a list of all of the available templates. Once you have selected the template that you wish to use, click on the far right button labeled Create page from template.
  4. If the template that you selected uses a form format then you will be prompted for information and the page will automatically be generated for you. After this you will be able to Edit it normally like any other page. If your template does not use a form format then you will be able to immediately begin editing the page and entering information as you normally would when Creating a New Page.

Select a template while adding a new page

  1. The second option for using a template is to click the Add button while on any page in your space and select Page.
  2. Now you will have the option to Select a page template to start from. Click this option.
  3. Select the template that you wish to use from the list. (Note: Global templates and templates specific to your space will be available in this list.)

  4. If the template that you selected uses a form format then you will be prompted for information and the page will automatically be generated for you. After this you will be able to Edit it normally like any other page. If your template does not use a form format then you will be able to immediately begin editing the page and entering information as you normally would when Creating a New Page.
