We are piloting online hours this semester for Tech Tutors (not related to World Campus).

We will be assisting ANY student or faculty from ANY Penn State campus!

Here is some basic information for you to know:

  • ALL Tech Tutor rules apply to you, EXCEPT you may use headphones. Please be aware, you are still not allowed to watch videos that unrelated to training during your shift.
  • You MUST still be here in person, you cannot work this shift remotely
  • You MUST wear your Tech Tutor uniform.

The first time you work an Online Tech Tutor shift you must

  1. Open a new INCOGNITO WINDOW under Chrome
  2. Type in
  3. Click Sign-in
  4. Email Dhvani (dqt5207) and let her know you signed-in successfully
  5. She will let you know when you have been added as host.
  6. Continue with the rest of the steps:

Get started with your Online Tech Tutor shift:

  1. Open a new INCOGNITO WINDOW under Chrome
  2. Go to:
    1. This will prompt the program Zoom to open on your computer.
  3. Once the program starts, if your audio is not set up, please click the "Join Audio" Button on the toolbar, and follow the prompts.  Make sure your audio is not muted ever during your shift, so you can hear when someone enters the zoom room.
  4. You may stop your video, but please start your video when someone enters the room.
  5. Click on "Manage Participants".

  6. If there are participants waiting, they will be put in a "waiting room". You have to manually admit them. You can admit everyone at once, or one person at a time (you are only required to work with one customer at a time).
  7. You can remove people in the queue, or put them back in the waiting room once they are in the zoom room, rename them, or make them a host (may be good if you are seeking assistance from another Tech Tutor).

8. Once you are done with your shift, make sure you Click "End Meeting" and "End Meeting for All", this will shut down the zoom room so customers cannot enter if there's no Tech Tutor available.
