Organizational Change Management (OCM) recognizes two types of project (or change) sponsors: The Executive, or PrimarySponsor and Sustaining Sponsors.

Sustaining Sponsors are mid- and first-level managers who have the power to legitimize the change with those who report to them. Change is impaired if there is no network of sustaining sponsorship that maintains the integrity of the implementation as it moves down through the levels of the organization.
