The Project Lead (or Product Lead), serves as Subject-Matter Expert and works in close partnership with the Project Manager. While the Project Manager assumes a more tactical role, ensuring that the project continues to deliver value, the Project Lead assumes a strategic role, working with others to identify what value is to be delivered.
The Project Lead might assume the role of Product Owner , serving as liaison between the team and the customers, stakeholders, and end users. In an IT project, the indivual in the Project Lead role might also serve as the Technical Lead .
Both the Project Lead and the Project Manager share the responsibility of leading and facilitating the project. Both are in the role of Servant Leader. See Subject-Matter Expert, Project Manager, Servant Leader.
