Topic:BiModal IT
Learn about challenges and successes when using Bimodal IT at the May 10 joint session of the Agile Discussion Group and the Project Management Working Group. Shawn Smith, Director of Software Engineering in Penn State IT, will talk about how his team leverages Bimodal IT to optimize the delivery of solutions.

Bimodal is the practice of managing two parallel, or combined, modes of IT delivery:
  • Mode 1 is optimized for efforts that require a more structured and formalized approach to planning and executing work.
  • Mode 2 is optimized for rapid response to market need and a flexible schedule and is typically addressed using an adaptive, or Agile approach.

The important thing to remember about Bimodal is that it's not Agile vs. Waterfall. Both approaches can be used side by side, or in combination, depending on the nature of the work.
